The
VOICE of BUSINESS to improve education in the San Diego region...

The Business Roundtable for
Education is the voice of business to improve education in the San
Diego region. We work in partnership with the business and
educational communities on education issues.
The Roundtable was established in 1992 as a division
of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce. Chamber members
wanted to highlight their interest in public education and become
more proactive in the education arena. In 2000, the Business
Roundtable for Education was aligned under what was then known as
the San Diego Regional
Chamber of Commerce Foundation−which is now known as the
Business Roundtable for Education Foundation−to advocate
for educational excellence in our region's public schools.
The
Roundtable's initiatives seek to define "quality" in our
educational system and serve as a catalyst for improving the
"quality of education" in the San Diego region. In this quest to
improve the quality of public education in the region, the
Roundtable's efforts focus on Accountability,
Best Practices, and
Comprehensive School Reform:
-
Pioneering efforts in assessment and modeling
the power of data collection within the school system based on
measurements of school and student performance--particularly
longitudinal measurements of individual student performance over time
-
Celebrating and disseminating "Best Practices" in education
-
Continued support for legislation enabling quality educational
capacity
-
Ongoing support of charter schools which offer new choices in public
education
-
Creating school cultures of excellence, innovation, and
continuous improvement
Our members, leaders of the business community, recognize that
they have a direct interest in San Diego's public education
system and as such have invested their time, money, and
efforts to bring education in San Diego to a first-class
level:
-
Businesses hire graduates of our systems' high schools
-
Strength of the educational system is directly tied to the
economic vitality of the region
-
Future success and economic prosperity of this region are
tied to the quality of our workforce
The Roundtable serves as the operational unit of the Business
Roundtable for Education
Foundation.
Business Roundtable
for Education Foundation
(the Foundation)

The
Business Roundtable for Education Foundation (formerly known as
the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce Foundation) was
created in 1993 to advocate for educational excellence and to
support educational reform measures. Given the heightened public
concern over the need to improve student performance in public
schools, the Foundation concentrates its efforts on researching, communicating and implementing
programs that will improve the quality of public education in the region.
To further these goals, the Business Roundtable for Education,
formerly operating under the auspices of the San Diego Regional
Chamber of Commerce, has become an integral part of the Foundation's education efforts.
"The Foundation is the link between our region's
business establishment and
the public schools where teaching
and learning resources are critically
needed. The Foundation not
only
identifies and helps find resources for programs
aimed
at improving education but operates those programs
as well."
